Acting Coach Q & A mit Sandra Seacat; How Sandra Seacat Teaches

Q: What is your main focus in working with actors?

My main focus while teaching is that the actor learns to fully express their own uniqueness and truth as a human being, and break through the patterns and blockages that prevent them from living fully and truthfully that part of them self that is the character, onstage or in front of the camera. We train and rehearse with very specific exercises that reveal the actor to himself and to the audience and also give the actor the courage to express who he is and to trust in himself and his instrument.

Q: What is important in your classes………for the actors growth?
I believe the class environment is invaluable for the growth and development of the artist. In my workshops we develop a bonding that provides the support and love which gives courage and permission to explore and reveal innermost feelings and emotions.

Q: How do you work with artists/actors? What is your process?
An important part of the work is guiding actors into communication with their creative source thru right understanding about the creative process. First we must understand what the play is truly about. So we begin to research the playwright (i.e. Where was the author born and raised?). Meanwhile the artist must learn how to live in a creative state thru relaxation, breathing, concentration, sense memory, dream assignments, active imagination, rituals, wants, and other methods. When actors engage in active imagination they experience things they never consciously knew, which allows them to express thoughts and feelings truthfully. The artist is then guided by the imagery of both their conscious and unconscious into the experience of the truth of their own life and that of the character they are portraying. The actor comes closer to the truthful essence of that part of them self that IS the character.
