with Geordie Brookman
Over four days participants will work with award winning director and acting teacher Geordie Brookman with a specific focus on the art of solo performance. Each participant will be matched with a unique 5 – 8 minute text that they will prepare over the course of the workshop which will then culminate in a public showing on the final day, providing the opportunity to test skills gained in the workshop in a real performance environment.
Amongst his work across theatre, music theatre, opera and circus Geordie has created five celebrated solo works, The Kreutzer Sonata for the Adelaide Festival, the Helpmann Award winning Little Bird for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Beckett’s Footfalls starring Pamela Rabe for the Adelaide Festival and MONA FOMA, Animal Farm for State Theatre Company South Australia and The Stones at the Theater Im Palais Berlin. Through the workshop he will provide participants with new skills and insights that can not only be applied to long form solo work but also monologue work in an audition context. Using his unique mapping method and physical devising approaches Geordie will help participants unlock the structures, focuses and possibilities of holding the stage, solo.
Geordie Brookman is an Australian director, dramaturg, deviser and teacher based in Berlin. From 2012 to 2019 he was the Artistic Director of the State Theatre Company South Australia, during which he started the Company’s first three ever international seasons, including commissioning, developing and co-directing the smash hit production of Andrew Bovell’s Things I Know To Be True in partnership with Frantic Assembly. He has directed for major theatre companies and festivals throughout Australia and has recently entered the contemporary circus world through his role as dramaturg for the Chamäleon Theater Berlin.
