Freeing the actors potential – An introduction to the “Brahe Mask Work” with Nikolaas von Schrader

The „Brahe Mask Work“ is all about the imagination, will force, creativity and charisma of an actor. The heart of this work is to release the body’s hidden potential and to open up the instrument for new, yet undiscovered impulses and ideas. We’ll work with special, hand carved wooden masks from Bali, which are not to be compared with the more common „neutral mask“ or the “commedia dell’Arte“. In addition to that we’ll engage in dance improvisation and elements of the Chekhov-work.

This workshop will help you to make yourself more available to your emotional world and move past blockages, obstacles and negative beliefs in your life. An intense and playful approach to oneself and your potential as a performer.

I’m convinced that the essence of art is rooted in our fantasy. We create unique images in our imagination and through that characters/images/stories will come to life. They connect to our emotional world and to that of others.

With this introduction to the mask world, I want to send you off more inspired and motivated for your work as an artist.

Nikolaas von Schrader is an Austrian actor and came in touch with the „Brahe Mask Work“ 2018 at William Esper Studio in NYC. After that he went to Bali for further studies with its founder Per Brahe.

He got his acting diploma in Vienna (2017) after a 3 year study and went on to play his first role in the Austrian movie „Die Letzte Party deines Lebens“ (2018). Following up was a role in the movie „Wie ich lernte bei mir selbst Kind zu sein“, an adaptation of a book by André Heller. He was also casted as an episode lead in different TV-Shows like “SOKO Donau” or “SOKO Linz“.

In Cologne he played two times at the local opera house 2018/2019 and also in various theatres around Vienna and Berlin, like Globe Berlin’s „Romeo and Juliet“ as Benvolio/Paris and Orest in Hofmannthals „Elektra“ in Vienna.

He’s working as an actor in Austria and Germany and also as a photographer for different movie sets in Austria.
