A weekend intensive on the basic building blocks of theatrical scene building utilising a mix of methodologies including traditional Stanislavskian techniques, Practical Aesthetics, late 20th century English methodologies and the work of Frantic Assembly. Over the course of two days participants will learn how to harvest all of the material they need to create a compelling performance from what is provided on the page while also experiencing a performance style that leaves them open to collaboration and organic change within the performance of contemporary writing. Utilising the work of a number of leading 20 and 21st century playwrights participants will look at Status, Public / Private space, Intention / Action, Given Circumstance, Physicality, Musicality of Text, Character and Story Arcs and much more. The workshop aims to leave participants ready to take the next step in a professional rehearsal room.
Geordie Brookman is one of Australia’s leading theatre and music theatre directors. From 2012 – 2019. He was the Artistic Director and Co-CEO of State Theatre Company South Australia during which time he more than tripled the Company’s activity and instigated its first three ever international tours.
