nick-sandowI have been working and collaborating with Seamus for ten years now. He has coached me on many auditions and currently on my work in the show Orange Is The New Black. The work I do with Seamus is invaluable. He has a wonderful ability to extract the larger themes running through a scene and how they play out moment to moment. Seamus will always lead me back to the larger story while nurturing my instincts. Working with him continues to be enlightening and I highly recommend him as a coach/director.

As an award-winning director, and leading coach for film and television in New York City, Seamus McNally serves actors in delivering some of their most convincing, nuanced work, often with very little time to prepare. To this end, he has developed “a shorthand” for scene analysis, and delivery of exceptional work on camera. This refreshingly practical course provides a foundation, grounding the actor in a unique and specific approach to working with beats and actions. This groundwork is then fortified with “pictures, saturated with sense data.” Along with exercises in stillness, and practical use of sensory work, actors are given invaluable tools to anchor a detailed prep, liberating them to simply be present and respond in the moment.

Throughout the course, actors are first guided through scenes, applying a complex but accessible system of analysis. These scenes are then put on camera under Seamus’ direction, with footage played back, where actors receive feedback on their work.

*There will be room for an additional small group of observers who also have a great deal to gain just by being witness to the process.

For participating actors who are interested in walking away from this experience with a tangible piece of reel, we’ll provide an opportunity to create a monologue to showcase their work.

We will take the piece we’ve workshopped throughout the course, and bring it to a simple location / studio environment where we’ll spend the day putting each scene on camera, and bringing them to life with our fresh perspective and nuanced rapport. Actors receive edited scenes within a reasonable time thereafter. They can also be provided with the raw footage, should they decide to make adjustments to the edit.
